SeenIn

Set up SeenIn in 15 minutes

Seven small steps, each with a picture. No coding, and you can go at your own pace.

Start here The technical guide

This guide is for SeenIn 1.0 on a PHP web host. Step 1 starts with the zip file from your purchase email.

Before you start

Tick these off first. Then the steps go smoothly.

  • It is called seenin-1.0.0.zip. You find it in your purchase email.

  • A web host is the company that keeps your website online. PHP is the language your host uses to run programs like SeenIn. You need PHP 7.4 or newer, and almost every host has it. No database needed.

  • Either the file manager: a page in your host's control panel that shows your website's folders. Or FTP: a free app, such as FileZilla, that copies files from your computer to your host. Your host's help pages tell you how to log in.

  • Think of a password with at least 10 characters. You will choose it in step 5.

About 1 minute

Step 1: Unzip the file

Find seenin-1.0.0.zip on your computer. On a Mac, double-click it. On Windows, right-click it and choose Extract All.

You now have one folder called seenin. Everything SeenIn needs is inside it.

Unzip means unpack. A zip file is many files packed into one, so they travel together.

About 1 minute

Step 2: Give the folder its name

The folder's name becomes part of your page address. Rename seenin to the word you want.

For example, call it picks, and your page will be at your-site.com/picks/.

Use only small letters, numbers and dashes. No spaces, no capitals.

your-site.com stands for your own website address in this guide. Use yours wherever you see it.

About 3 minutes

Step 3: Find your website's main folder

Log in to your web host and open its file manager. Or open your FTP app and connect to your host.

Look for your website's main folder and open it. It is usually called public_html, www or htdocs.

Not sure which one? Search your host's help pages for "where do I upload my website files". They name the folder.

About 3 minutes

Step 4: Upload the whole folder

Drag your folder (for example picks) into the main folder. Wait until every file has copied.

Bring the hidden files too. A few files have names that start with a dot, like .htaccess, and some apps hide them. In FileZilla, open the Server menu and turn on "Force showing hidden files".

An easy way to keep every file: many file managers let you upload the zip itself and unzip it on the host (look for Extract). Then rename the seenin folder there, as in step 2.

Most hosts need nothing more. If your host uses nginx (a kind of web server; your host's support can tell you), send them the short note at the end of the technical guide.

About 2 minutes

Step 5: Choose your password

In your browser, go to your page address with admin.php at the end, for example your-site.com/picks/admin.php.

SeenIn checks your host for you, then asks you to choose a password of at least 10 characters. Keep it somewhere safe.

Do this within one hour of opening the page for the first time. If more time has passed, SeenIn first asks you to show the site is yours. That is normal and takes a minute: see "The page asks me to create a file" below.

About 3 minutes

Step 6: Add your first poster

The setup asks for your name or channel and a look for your page. Then it asks for your first poster.

Paste the link to a product: your affiliate link, your shop or any page. SeenIn reads its name and picture for you. Save, then press Open my Studio.

The Studio is your private page for adding and changing posters. Only you can open it, with your password.

No name or picture showed up? Some shops do not allow it. Type the name and upload a picture yourself.

1 minute

Step 7: Put your page in your bio

Your page is online at your-site.com/picks/. Copy that address and put it in your social media bio.

To add more posters later, go to your-site.com/picks/admin.php and log in with your password.

How to know it worked

Open your page on your phone, the way your viewers will see it.

  1. Your page shows your posters

At your-site.com/picks/ you see your posters, not a list of files and not an error page.

  2. Your password opens the Studio

At your-site.com/picks/admin.php, your password takes you into the Studio.

  3. Each poster goes to your link

Tap a poster, and it opens the exact link you pasted.

If something looks wrong

These four cover most hiccups. Nothing here can break your website.

You see: SeenIn needs PHP 7.4 or newer

In your host's control panel, look for "PHP version" or "Select PHP version" and choose 8.2 or newer. Or ask your host's support to do it for you.

You see: A list of files, or an error page saying 403 or 404

Check that the folder name in the address matches your folder exactly, and that the file index.php is inside it. If it is missing, upload the folder again.

You see: SeenIn cannot start yet, with a list

Each line says what to fix. Most often SeenIn may not save into its data or uploads folder. In your file manager, find that folder's permissions (often by right-clicking it) and set them to 755. Or ask your host.

Permissions are a setting that says who may change a folder.

You see: The page asks me to create a file

This happens when more than an hour has passed since step 5. It is how SeenIn makes sure only you can set the password.

  1. Press Show my file name. Copy the name it shows.
  2. In your file manager, open your SeenIn folder, then the data folder inside it.
  3. Make a new, empty file there with exactly that name. Paste it to avoid typos.
  4. Go back to the page in the same browser and choose your password.

The name works for 30 minutes. After that, press the button again for a new one.

Something else? The technical guide lists every message. Or write to build@isherry.tech with your host's name, your page address and what you see. A screenshot helps.
